November 08, 2005 08:30:34 (ET) HOLTSVILLE, N.Y., Nov 08, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Symbol Technologies, Inc. (SBL, Trade), The Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), and Menusoft Systems, the leader of PC-based restaurant systems and developer of the Digital Dining software, today announced that Comedy Works of Denver is using Symbol PPT8800 mobile computers to enhance the customer experience and increase revenues in its premier stand-up comedy club. Comedy Works selected the Symbol PPT8800 mobile computer for its versatility and deployed the solution in March 2005. The handheld mobile computers have improved operational efficiencies and customer service by compressing the time needed for food and drink orders to be delivered to the customer. Instead of orders being taken in the traditional pen and paper way, Comedy Works wait staff now uses the Symbol PPT8800 mobile computers to take orders which are then transmitted wirelessly directly to PC terminals located at drink wells and in the kitchen. The streamlined process reduces customer wait time and results in increased food and beverage sales, as well as increased customer loyalty. The mobile computers also enable Comedy Works to increase the speed and safety of check payments by allowing credit card transactions to be securely completed at customer tables with Symbol's handheld card swipe feature. "With a very short window of time to serve customers and capture food and beverage revenue, we are always looking for innovative solutions to improve processes," said Wende Curtis, owner of Comedy Works. "Since deploying Symbol's PPT8800 mobile computer with the Digital Dining software, our wait staff is more productive, our process is more efficient and food and beverage sales have increased more than ten percent." Comedy Works is also using the PPT8800 mobile computer for managing its perishable products inventory and for a custom-built ticket system to read the barcodes on tickets and reduce customer wait time to enter the establishment. "Comedy Works' use of the PPT8800 mobile computer is another example of Symbol's ability to provide mobile solutions for a variety of customers in various industries," said Tom Tiernan, vice president and general manager of Symbol's Mobile Computing Division. "With the help of Symbol's mobile computers, customers in the hospitality and entertainment markets can create competitive advantages and generate additional revenue while increasing employee productivity." "Digital Dining's relationship with Symbol Technologies provides customers in the hospitality industry with a mobile solution designed for time-sensitive operations," said Andre Nataf, Senior Business Development Manager, Digital Dining/Menusoft. "We exclusively recommend Symbol's mobile computers, as Symbol's leadership in enterprise mobility combined with our hospitality point-of-decision solution provides users with improved operational efficiencies and an enhanced customer experience." Comedy Works will open its newest location in New York City in the spring of 2006 and will debut a second location in the Denver metropolitan area in 2007. Both locations will feature Symbol Technologies' mobile computing solutions from Digital Dining.
