NATIONAL AMUSEMENTS SELECTS EPSON MOBILINK™ POS PRINTERS AND DIGITAL DINING SOFTWARE TO DELIVER SEAT-SIDE SERVICE

Retail Systems Show, Chicago, IL, May 24, 2005 –Today Epson, a leading supplier of value-added Point of Sale (POS) solutions, and Menusoft, a pioneer of PC-based POS solutions, announced that National Amusements Theaters is utilizing Epson Mobilink wireless POS printers, along with Digital Dining software, to increase food and beverage sales and enhance customers’ overall theater experience.   The rollout began in November 2004 in the Long Island, Los Angeles, and Ohio locations. Plans to rollout this solution to other National Amusements theaters are underway. By delivering concessions directly to customers in their seats, National Amusements hopes to enhance its reputation for providing high-end service and amenities to its patrons.

National Amusements CEO, Shari Redstone, sought to bring the sophisticated food service capabilities used in Europe to the company’s U.S. theaters.  In Europe, she noticed handheld computers and portable receipt printers were used in theaters that included sit-down restaurants and food courts. So impressed that waitstaff could take and deliver restaurant food orders directly to the customer’s theater seat, Redstone gave her IT department the directive to implement the same type of customer service in the first theater within six weeks.

National Amusements began using Digital Dining software three years ago when they expanded their theaters to include restaurants and bars and realized their current ticketing and concession POS software could not handle bar or table service orders. The company purchased Epson Mobilink printers and Symbol handheld terminals to round out the mobile POS solution, which was up and running in the first theater at full speed within the six-week timeframe.

“We are using the mobile POS solution to serve customers seat-side and to take inventory,” said Vik Joshi, Director of Purchasing at National Amusements. “The Epson Mobilink printers and Symbol handhelds are rugged and easy for waitstaff to use, and both work seamlessly with our Digital Dining software.  With the mobile solution, we offer patrons a more pleasurable and convenient theater experience, and we have definitely seen increased sales. We’ve also cut inventory time by 30%.”

The mobile hospitality solution allows National Amusements employees to bring the highly profitable concession counter directly to the customer. If the customer pays with a credit card, the Symbol unit is used to authorize the card on the spot, and the Epson Mobilink printer produces a receipt within seconds. Transactions are speedy, and customers don’t have the inconvenience of leaving their seats to wait in long concession lines and chance missing some of the movie.
